The LG Dare VX9700 Cell Phone, courtesy of Verizon Wireless, is a touch screen smartphone that dares to be different with its bold looks and advanced capabilities. The Dare is the bestselling phone at the moment, so what makes the LG Dare VX9700 so popular with both young and old today?
First of all, the LG Dare VX9700 is a touch screen smartphone that dares to be different with its bold looks and advanced capabilities. It is out to join the emerging brawl for dominance in the next big wave of cellular phone technology. Led by Apple's revolutionary iPhone, the fanciest of high-end phones must now engage touch screen technology head on.
The big question is though, is the Dare up to the challenge? On the surface, all of the key ingredients are there, a 3.2-megapixel camera, multimedia capabilities and a compact keyboard-less design completes a full-panel touch screen, dominating the front of the phone.
The menu can be navigated with the flick of a finger, flipping through the contact list for speedy texting, emailing and phoning. Favorites can be reached with a drag and drop photo interface. It's compatible with the VCast Music and VCAST Music with Rhapsody services, which enables you to purchase from over 2 million songs through your phone and download them via Verizon's fast EV-DO data network and also boosts VCAST Video to stream entertainment clips, sports highlights, breaking news and weather.
Design
The LG Dare is a professional PDA style looking phone in a conveniently-sized package. The dimensions are slight (104 x 56 x 13 mm) and its mass negligible (107 grams), therefore small enough to fit into the palm of a hand or the back pocket of jeans. It has a stainless steel border along its sides and black soft touch surface on the back.

As the front of the phone features a full-panel touch screen, it allows for beautifully customized wallpaper to dominate the look of the active phone. The downside of this is that the full-panel touch screen leaves plenty of room for fingerprints and scratches, so it may be advisable to buy a protective covering.
The bit I personally love is the Light Sensor on the upper left which detects the amount of light and adjusts the brightness of the LCD to conserve battery power and extend screen life.
Features
The LG dare VX9700 Cell Phone features a large 3-inch touchscreen that recognizes your handwriting and provides tactile feedback when pressing onscreen buttons or typing on the onscreen full QWERTY keyboard. The display resolution is 240 x 400-pixels and supports 262K colours, and its home screen has several shortcut icons including your messaging inbox, phonebook, favourites menu and much more. The phone provides just three buttons on the bottom of its face for send, end and clearing calls.

Some of the other more important features to mention are:
Internal 148 MB memory, which can be expanded via optional MicroSD memory cards up to 8 GB in size.
Stores up to 1000 contact entries, with fields for five numbers per contact.
It connects to your PC via USB, and it offers USB mass storage capabilities.
The 3.2-megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens offers several resolution options, ranging from 2048 x 1536 pixels to QVGA 320 x 240 pixels. It offers many advanced features, which are too many to mention here but some useful ones are face detection, SmartPic Technology (which helps to compensate face color), six preset scense, panorama and split shot capabilities, multi-shot, multiple color effects, a flash, self-timer, and multiple shutter sounds (including off). Once you've snapped your photo, you can edit it right in the Dare zoom, rotate, crop, add frames, or add writing over the image.
The latest version of Bluetooth connectivity, version 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), which makes pairing with the included headset as well as other Bluetooth devices a snap. The EDR capability allows for faster connection than with the previous version 1.2, which makes transferring files and using the phone as a modem for your laptop hum along nicely. And streaming your music to a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones or other compatible devices becomes child play with the embedded A2DP Bluetooth profile.
These are just some of the many features available on the LG Dare. So what do consumers have to say about this phone. The positives are excellent fast browser, great photos, huge touch screen, excellent battery life and the reception is above average. On the other hand most users found that people who they speak to found they had an echo, it is not very ergonomically designed, the virtual (qwerty) keyboard is difficult to use especially with large fingers and the scrolling capabilities can be tempermental.
In summary, if you want a PDA style phone with the best internet browser and some great features, the LG Dare VX 9700 Cell Phone may just be for you. However, if you text a decent amount, this phone may be a headache waiting to happen to you. And if you prefer a touch screen phone with a keyboard, then the Voyager may be the better option.
